Things To Do In Tenerife
Book your travels to Tenerife as far in advance as possible, as the island generally has a hotel occupancy rate of 97% throughout the year. The high student population also means that there are not a lot of tourist accommodations, so be sure to sort this all out before you arrive! Once you arrive on business class flights to Tenerife, you will find that there is an amazingly diverse array of things to see and do on this beautiful island. With its beautiful historic towns, exciting resorts, and gorgeous landscape, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
The capital city of the island is Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The striking Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Concepción is perhaps the city’s most iconic landmark. It is the oldest church in town, the original building having been constructed in the late 15th century. The cedar altarpiece in the chapel beside the anteroom is worth seeing. Don’t miss the Tenerife Espacio de las Artes, which contains an excellent art gallery and a permanent collection of works by Tenerife native artist Óscar Domínguez, a surrealist painter in league with Salvador Dalí and Joan Miró. Take a guided tour of the Auditorio de Tenerife, a magnificent architectural marvel designed by the revered architect Santiago Calatrava. Stop for an incredible Canarian meal at La Hierbita, the city’s oldest restaurant.
Situated southwest of Santa Cruz, Puerto de la Cruz has long been the main tourist hub on the island, dating back to Victorian times when aristocratic ladies would retreat to the city’s fabled spas. Be sure to visit the fabulous Jardín Botánico, first established in 1788. Another fine choice is the Risco Belle Aquatic Gardens, with its sweeping lawns, citrus trees, birds of paradise, herons and picturesque cafes. Definitely stop by Loro Parque, a large zoo named for its 350 species of parrots, the largest collection of parrots in the world. When you get hungry, stop by the immensely popular Tito’s Bodeguita and enjoy their atmospheric patio.
The university town of La Laguna is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and is the oldest settlement on the island. It is also considered to be the most beautiful, so it’s well worth at least a day trip! Head to the Museo de la Historia de Tenerife, housed in a 16th-century mansion. Make sure you head to the back of the museum to see the 18th- and 19th-century carriages. Have a meal at the top-rated Guaydil restaurant; try the couscous, crepes, and mojito sorbet. As a youthful town, La Laguna is also known for its excellent nightlife, perhaps the most active on the island. Hang out and people-watch at one of the excellent local bars along calle Dr Antonio Gonzalez and calle Elias Sierra Rafols.
Tenerife is home to a lot of excellent hiking routes, and those wishing for some wonderful natural landscapes should definitely head to the Parque Nacional Las Cañadas del Teide. In the center of the park is Mount Teide, the highest peak in Spain. There is also a cable car that can take you nearly up to the summit for some truly awe-inspiring views. Another immensely popular trek is the Masca Valley, which takes you between giant cliffs and down to the beach. Punta de Teno in the west side is another well-loved hiking area, and is also worth visiting to see its lighthouse. Of course, probably the main attraction for tourists on business class flights to Tenerife are the magnificent beaches. The most popular beaches are concentrated in the southern portion of the island. Playa de las Vistas, Playa del Duque, and Playa de Troya are all beautifully idyllic.
Getting Around Tenerife
The best way to get around the island is to rent a car, and there are lots of companies to choose from when you arrive on business class flights to Tenerife. There are several wonderful drives that take you around the island, notably the mountain road drive to the village of Masca. The towns themselves are all easy to walk around, and this is undoubtedly the greatest way to explore and experience the amazing local culture. There is a tram that connects downtown Santa Cruz to La Laguna, which takes about 35 minutes. There are also buses that connect the island towns. The larger towns have public transport systems that consist of buses.
Whether you are interested in the beaches, the nightlife, the natural wonders, or the charming towns, business class flights to Tenerife are a sure-fire guarantee that you will have an exceptionally luxurious vacation on this paradise island.
