Things To Do In Qatar
There is a free Doha City Tour that occurs four times a day that lasts just under three hours, with guided visits to The Pearl, Katara Cultural Village, Museum of Islamic Art, and Souq Wasif. You can register for this tour in the airport. The number one highlight of Doha is the Al-Corniche, a beautiful seaside promenade that provides extraordinary views of the city skyline and palm trees. The Pearl is a luxurious neighborhood on a man-made island off the northern coast of the city. The best museum to visit in Doha is the Museum of Islamic Art. The building itself, designed by the same architect who dreamed up the Louvre pyramid, is incredible. It’s located on its own island, providing spectacular views of the water. It has the largest collection of Islamic art on the planet. The museum also contains an excellent café downstairs and a large museum shop. Free, guided tours of the permanent collection are available in English. The Msheirab Enrichment Center is located next to the landmark Sheraton Hotel, and is a great place to learn about Qatar’s history and the country’s plans for the future. The Arab Museum of Modern Art, Museum of Orientalists, Weaponry Museum, and Sheikh Faisal Collection are excellent spots to visit, as well.
Another interesting destination within Qatar is Al Khor, a coastal city located in the northeast, about 31 miles from Doha. It was once an important center for the pearling industry. Al Khor features a lovely corniche with a museum next door. The Al Khor Museum is a two-storey restored building, containing anthropological artifacts, and a section that depicts the fishing, diving, and shipbuilding traditions from which the city gained its fame. There’s a great view of the bay from the top of the building. Other main attractions of Al Khor are the watchtowers, the dhow yard, the fish market, and a pretty beach.
Al Jassasiya, located northeast of Doha, is an amazing site that contains an incredible number of petroglyphs carved into the stone. Over 900 glyphs are thought to date back to 1500 BC, although exact dates are as of yet unknown. Al Zubarah, located about 65 miles from Doha on the northwest coast of Qatar, is an abandoned town that is considered to be the country’s most impressive archaeological site. The pristine Arab-style Zubarah Fort is just over a mile away from the town, and is home to a museum that provides a lot of information about the archaeological excavations in the area. It is recommended that you get there using an all-wheel drive vehicle in order to properly explore the fascinating site. Bring some snacks, as the nearest restaurant, Madinat ash Shamal, is a 40- minute drive away.
Getting Around Qatar
Most visitors who arrive on business class flights to Qatar use taxis to get around the area. Karwa cabs are easy to find and are very affordable. You can order a taxi in advance for an additional fee. Another option is the limousine service, which is the most comfortable way of getting around Qatar. Many hotels provide their own limousine services for guests, especially for getting to and from the airport. Uber taxi services are also available for travelers with smartphones. There are many car rental companies, many of which have airport branches. It’s not usually recommended to walk around outside in Qatar during the hottest times of the year. Also note that many locations do not use street numbers, or even names, in their addresses, and navigation often relies on the use of landmarks. There is a good bus service that covers most of Doha and the rest of the country, although tourists don’t often use it. If you do choose to travel via bus, you will find the vehicles to be pleasantly air-conditioned, clean, and modern. Fares are calculated depending on distance traveled. The West Bay Shuttle passes by many notable attractions and is a good option for tourists.
Regardless of whether you are traveling for work or for leisure, nothing could be better than business class flights to Qatar. From the moment that you book your premium tickets, you are sure to have an incredible journey.
