Things To Do In Beijing
Located in the center of the city is the world’s largest public square and one of China’s most important historical landmarks, Tiananmen Square. Surrounding the square are many impressive buildings, such as the Great Hall of the People, the Museum of Chinese History, the Gate of Heavenly Peace, the Forbidden City, and the Museum of the Chinese Revolution. The Chairman Mao Memorial Hall and Monument to the People’s Martyrs is also here. Early-rising visitors can watch the People’s Liberation Army soldiers perform the daily flag-raising ceremony at sunrise. A mirror ceremony also occurs at sunset.
The UNESCO-listed Forbidden City is the largest collection of superbly preserved ancient buildings in China, and the largest palace complex on the planet. Official guided tours, as well as self-guided audio tours, are available, and will take the better part of a day to complete if you are thorough. The Summer Palace is another mandatory sight to see in Beijing, with its wonderful architecture, hilltop views, and impressive temples, gardens, bridges, and more. The Temple of Heaven in the Chongwen District is another enduringly important symbol of the city and top destination for visitors on business class flights to Beijing. Not only is the structure itself magnificent, but the large public park that surrounds it, where locals practice tai chi in the mornings and on weekends, is equally wonderful, Not far from the Temple of Heaven is the Hong Qiao Market, one of the best places to buy Chinese silks, pearls, and high-end jewelry.
It goes without saying that no trip to Beijing is complete without an excursion to the legendary Great Wall of China. The wall is in fact a collection of many separate walls built mainly in the course of three different dynasties. There are eight main sections near the city that most tourists visit after arriving on business class flights to Beijing. The most popular sections are the Badaling Great Wall, the Juyongguan Great Wall, and the Mutianyu Great Wall. Spring is an especially wonderful time to visit, when the climate is mild, the trees and plants are all green, and the flowers are blooming. There are many trains and buses that take visitors to the Great Wall, and there is also the option of chartering a taxi. The drive generally takes about 2 hours from the city center.
Getting Around Beijing
Because Beijing is a massive metropolis and the large range of attractions found here is spread across the city, walking around isn’t always an option. It is most likely that when you arrive on business class flights to Beijing, you will be using the subway and taxis to get around. The public transit system in Beijing is vast and reliable, as well as fairly easy to use. It consists of a subway and buses. The subway is the quickest way to get around and is marked clearly in English. Entrances to the subway are indicated by a big stylized capital ‘G’ wrapped around a letter ‘B’. Tickets can be purchased at vending machines and allow transfer between the many lines for up to 4 hours. Don’t buy multiple tickets at once if you plan on using the system over many days, as tickets are only valid on the day of purchase, at the station in which they were purchased. Pre-paid cards are available for a refundable deposit. If you have luggage, purses, or any other bags, you must go through security X-rays at stations. Avoid traveling on the subway during rush hour, particularly lines 1 and 2. Taxis are an excellent option to get around Beijing, especially for travelers with luggage or families, and can be hailed from the street. Keep in mind that many cab drivers will not understand English, so it is best to print out the names of the places you wish to go to, or get help from a local who can write it out for you. Exploring Beijing by bicycle is an excellent option for the energetic traveler and there are many bike rental companies in town. The city is exceedingly flat and all of the main roads have bike lanes. There are also many excellent bike tours to choose from that will take you through many of the city’s main attractions.
Travel in style and comfort with premium tickets to Beijing and you will arrive feeling your best, ready to take on this enormous and intriguing city. Regardless of whether you are planning to go to Beijing for work or for pleasure, business class travel is the best choice for the discerning jetsetter.
